WINDOWS 95 FREEZING
This is caused by a corrupt password file in windows. You must delete
the windows password file and then re-install dial-up networking and
networking.
First open an 'MS-DOS prompt' from your program menu. Next type 'dir *.pwl'
and you should see a line that looks like
USERNAME PWL .........
Now type 'del USERNAME.PWL' where USERNAME is the name that was displayed
before the pwl. Close the dos window.
Next, click START, Settings, Control Panel, and double-click on the
'Network' icon. Highlight 'Dial-up Adaptor', click 'Remove', and 'OK'
You will be asked to restart your computer. Don't restart yet!
Double-click the 'Add-Remove Programs' icon and select the 'Windows Setup' tab.
Highlight the 'Communications' section and click 'Details'. Uncheck the box
for 'Dial-up Networking'. Click 'OK'and 'OK' again. Restart your
computer now.
When the computer reboots, go to 'Control Panel'. Double-click
'Add-Remove Programs', select the 'Windows Setup' tab, highlight
'Communications' and click 'Details'. Re-check the 'Dial-up Networking' box and
click 'OK' and 'OK' again. Don't restart your computer if it asks you to.
Double-click the 'Network' icon to replace the network components.
Click 'Add', double-click 'Adaptor', select 'Microsoft' in the left column,
and double-click 'Dial-up Adaptor' in the right column.
Click 'Add' again. Double-click 'Protocol', select 'Microsoft' in the left
column, and double-click 'TCP/IP' in the right column. Click 'OK'.
Now it is safe to re-start your computer.
